Who we are
The Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools
TRACS is recognized by both the United States Department of Education (USDOE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a national institutional accrediting agency for Christian postsecondary institutions, colleges, universities, and seminaries.
TRACS is authorized to pre-accredit and accredit institutions offering certificates; diplomas; and associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degrees; including institutions that offer distance education and/or correspondence education.
Institutional accrediting agencies review the entire institution, acknowledging that each of an institution’s parts contributes to the achievement of the institution’s objectives including such areas as governance, finances, administration, curriculum, faculty qualifications, support services, facilities, institutional effectiveness, planning, learning resources, policies, and publications. As such, TRACS requires that member institutions meet national norms in the areas of curriculum; programs; faculty credentials; and measured student learning outcomes at the course, program and institutional levels.
TRACS is also a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). INQAAHE is a world-wide association of over 200 organizations active in the theory and practice of quality assurance in higher education.
Finally, TRACS is a member of the American Council on Education (ACE). ACE has over 1,700 organizations that collectively promote, protect, and advocate for students, faculty and administrators in higher education. ACE is the most visible and influential higher education association in the nation and is at the center of federal policy debates concerning issues related to higher education legislation across the country.
TRACS encourages each member institution to develop its own distinctives, while providing a quality postsecondary educational experience within the context of the spiritual development of the individual.
Today, TRACS provides academic accreditation to many of America's finest Christian institutions of higher learning. Whether you are a prospective student, looking for quality Christian education, or an institution of academia seeking the affiliation and accreditation of a respected organization, TRACS offers the resources to meet your needs. Please take time to review our online directory of member institutions, and our information for accreditation applicants.
TRACS Reauthorized by the Department of Education
The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) notified TRACS on October 28, 2016, that the agency has been reauthorized as a nationally recognized institutional accrediting agency. The DOE process requires that accrediting agencies be reauthorized every five years by undergoing a review process similar to that required of an institution seeking accreditation. For recognition, an accrediting agency must be in compliance with all federal regulations under section 34 of Criteria for Recognition (CFR) §602.10 through §602.28 and all subsections.
The scope of recognition for TRACS is as follows:
The accreditation and preaccreditation (“Candidacy status”) of Christian postsecondary institutions in the United States that offer certificates, diplomas, and associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degrees, including institutions that offer distance education.
DOE authorization assures that TRACS is maintaining the highest level of quality in the review of its institutions and signifies that the DOE is satisfied that accreditation by TRACS is a required element in enabling TRACS member institutions to establish eligibility to participate in programs administered by the DOE.
Council for Higher Education Accreditation Recognizes TRACS
At its meeting on September 19-20, 2011, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Board of Directors reviewed the recommendation of the CHEA Committee on Recognition regarding the recognition application submitted by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) Accreditation Commission. The board of directors accepted the committee’s recommendation and granted recognition to the TRACS Accreditation Commission.
In accordance with the 2006 CHEA Recognition Policies and Procedures, TRACS is recognized for the following scope of accreditation:
Accreditation and preaccreditation of Christian postsecondary institutions in the United States, U. S. territories, and other locations determined by the Accrediting Commission that offer certificates, diplomas, and associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degrees.
